CBD can be used to treat many conditions, including anxiety, insomnia and chronic pain. If you use it to treat ill health or have considered starting, you're probably wondering how often you should take it.
As CBD isn't officially treated as a medicine, there's precious little information available about dosages. Do you need to take CBD daily? Several times a day?
A lot depends on your condition and body.
Do I Need to Take CBD Daily?
When determining your CBD dosage there are several different factors to take into consideration:
- What condition are you using CBD to treat?
- How much do you weigh?
- How strong is the CBD product that you're using?
The absolute best way to determine your ideal dosage is by asking your doctor. However, some doctors are unhappy using CBD as a treatment, so you may need to work it out on your own.
If possible, categorize your symptoms as mild, moderate, or severe. This information, plus your body weight, will help you determine your dosage.
If you weigh between 40 and 70 kilograms, you might try these dosages:
- 12 mg for mild symptoms
- 15 mg for moderate symptoms
- 18 mg for severe symptoms
If you weigh between 70 and 110 kilograms, experts suggest the following:
- 18 mg for mild symptoms
- 22.5 mg for moderate symptoms
- 27 mg for severe symptoms
If you weigh more than 110 kilograms, the following dosages are suggested:
- 22.5 mg for mild symptoms
- 30 mg for moderate symptoms
- 45 mg for severe symptoms
Take this amount whenever symptoms flare up. It is nearly impossible to overdose on CBD, so take it as required. Some will need to take CBD daily, others multiple times per day.
Determining CBD Dosage
Now that you know how many milligrams of CBD to take, it's time to look at determining dosage.
When using CBD products, you need to determine the concentration. If you're using CBD capsules, this is easy: the bottle will normally tell you how much CBD is in each capsule. If you're using a CBD tincture, it's a little more difficult.
The bottle's CBD figure will normally be for the entire bottle. Therefore, if you have a 10 ml bottle which contains 1000 mg of CBD, you should know how much CBD is in each drop.
One drop is around 0.05 ml. There are 200 drops in a bottle: divide 1000 by 200, and you get 5 mg per drop. Now that you know how large a drop is, you can determine how many drops you need to take.
Final Thoughts on Making a CBD Schedule
If your doctor has given you the okay to take CBD, start with the dosages we've listed above. If you find that taking this amount of CBD daily isn't helping you, up the dose by 10 mg at a time.
